Food Insecurity

Although some communities are more affected than others, hunger can be ubiquitously found throughout the world because of its distinct association with poverty. According to Bread For the World , around 700 million people live in extreme poverty globally, defined as an income of $2.15 per day or less. Poverty is the greatest cause of hunger worldwide, as individuals with insufficient money have to prioritize their needs, usually at the expense of the quantity or quality of their food. Poverty numbers are now higher than ever, due to rapid climate change, record-high inflation, and severe job instability. Even in high-income countries like the US, millions of people still struggle with poverty and food insecurity. From its existence in developing countries to global superpowers, hunger, and its implicit connections with poverty, are problems that need to be recognized and addressed everywhere.
